The foldable smartphone will offer an iPad-like large screen when opened.

CALIFORNIA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Sep, 2026) US technology company Apple has unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, after a long wait. It is being described as the biggest design change in the iPhone lineup in several years.

The new iPhone takes the form of a relatively compact phone when folded, while opening it provides users with a large, nearly tablet-sized display.

The iPhone Duo can be opened and closed like a book.

It features a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display when unfolded, the largest screen ever offered on an iPhone. The larger inner display has also been designed for using multiple apps and multitasking.

The new foldable iPhone is built primarily with a titanium frame and uses Ceramic Shield glass for protection.

It also carries an IP68 rating, intended to provide better resistance against water and dust. The iPhone Duo is available in Star White and the deep blue Night Sky colors.

The iPhone Duo uses Apple's new A20 Pro chip and C2 modem, while two 48-megapixel rear cameras are among its key features.

With the new device, Apple has finally entered the foldable smartphone market, where samsung, Google, Huawei and other companies have already introduced their foldable phones.

The iPhone Duo is considerably more expensive than Apple's conventional iPhones.

Its starting price in the United States has been set at approximately $2,000 or more, while supplies are expected to begin in October.

A notable aspect of Apple's new phone is that the company entered the foldable market considerably later than its rivals.

However, the arrival of the iPhone Duo is being described as a significant development for the foldable smartphone market, and Apple's entry is expected to intensify competition in the sector.

Apple has also introduced its new iPhone 18 series, including new models such as the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

These phones focus on next-generation processors, improved camera systems, artificial intelligence-related features and enhanced battery performance. However, the iPhone Duo, the company's first foldable iPhone, attracted the most attention at Apple's event this year.
