Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch will take charge as Pakistan’s ambassador to Türkiye after her retirement, Ishaq Dar says.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Sep, 2026) Asim Iftikhar has been appointed Pakistan’s new foreign secretary, with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif approving his appointment.

Asim Iftikhar is currently serving as Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations and will assume charge as foreign secretary soon. Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch is scheduled to complete her tenure in the third week of this month, following which the new appointment has been made.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan’s 33rd Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Amna Baloch, would retire from government service on 17th Sep, 2026.

He said she had rendered diplomatic services for more than three decades and had held the office of foreign secretary since 11th Sep, 2024. Ishaq Dar said Amna Baloch’s services and her leadership of the Foreign Ministry during a difficult period were commendable.

After her retirement, she will take charge as Pakistan’s ambassador to Türkiye. The foreign minister said Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, had been appointed the new foreign secretary, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had approved the appointments.
