ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Sep, 2026) Former Federal minister Fawad Chaudhry said diesel was priced at Rs286 per litre and petrol at Rs258 in February, whereas diesel now costs Rs393 and petrol Rs364, marking increases of Rs107 and Rs106, respectively.

Reacting on X, he said diesel was Rs286 per litre and petrol Rs258 in February, but after today’s increase, diesel had reached Rs393 and petrol Rs364. He said the Shehbaz government had ruined the economy and that increasing production had become impossible at these prices.

He said it did not appear that the government’s experts had any solution to the situation, adding that they had given up and the economy was struggling.

Meanwhile, OGRA has again announced a major increase in petroleum product prices. According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, petrol was increased by Rs3.40 per litre and diesel by Rs6.72 per litre.

The new price of petrol was set at Rs367.75 per litre and diesel at Rs392.

The new prices will take effect from midnight tonight. The Goods Transport Owners Association announced a 10 percent increase in fares following the rise in diesel prices. Media reports quoted goods transporters as saying that diesel had increased by approximately Rs18 in 17 days and that they would have no option but to go on strike again if the agreement was not fully implemented.

Rising oil prices are continuously increasing transporters’ costs and directly burdening the public. They said operating transport services at existing fares had become difficult following the increase in diesel prices, and demanded full implementation of the written agreement between the government and transporters.

They warned that failure to implement it could lead to another strike. The previous day, Goods Transporters President Malik Shehzad Awan had also strongly condemned the daily increase in petroleum product prices. He said the decision to change petroleum prices daily was unacceptable and should be withdrawn immediately.
