PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Sep, 2026) Provincial Minister for Information, Science and Information Technology Shafi Jan has said that promotion of information technology will play a pivotal role in driving economic growth in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the government committed to transforming the province into a hub of technology and digital economy.

He expressed these views during a visit to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology board (KPITB), where he inspected various sections, including the FinTech Unit, and reviewed ongoing digital initiatives.

KPITB Managing Director Dr Aaqif Khan briefed the minister on digital governance, cashless government payments, digital skills training for youth, employment opportunities in the IT sector, digital public services and ongoing projects.

Shafi Jan congratulated KPITB on receiving two international awards and several national-level recognitions, saying the provincial government would utilise all available resources to advance the IT sector.

He said the province had been given a Digital Vision 2030 under the leadership of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, aimed at positioning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a centre of technology and digital economy.

The minister said digitisation of public services was being pursued on a priority basis to save citizens from unnecessary visits to government offices and make services available at their doorsteps.

He was informed that 48 government systems had been digitised this year, while another 400 government services would be digitised by December 2026.

The Dastak app is already providing various services, including driving and arms licences, while its upgraded version would provide access to 146 government services.

The minister directed the authorities to further strengthen and expand the cashless government payment system, saying digital payments would enhance transparency and efficiency in public-sector transactions.

Officials said the PAMIR system had enabled digital payments for 319 services across 34 departments, placing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ahead of other provinces in the digitisation of government payments.

Shafi Jan said equipping young people with modern digital skills remained a key priority. Under the employment-oriented skills programme, a target has been set to train 27,500 young people, while 16,300 have already received digital skills training.

He directed the IT Board to take further effective measures to connect KP's youth with the global IT market and create better employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for them.

The meeting was also informed that the Khyber Pass had been launched, enabling citizens to access various government services conveniently and securely through a single digital identity.

Officials said three IT parks had been established in the province, including one in Dera Ismail Khan, while Software Technology Parks in Peshawar and Mardan had been completed. Work on Digital City Haripur, being developed at an estimated cost of Rs1.6 billion, was also progressing rapidly.

Under the Darshal Innovation Network, 199 startups have so far received incubation support, the meeting was told.

Shafi Jan said the expansion of e-governance would significantly improve transparency, accountability and public convenience.

He directed all government departments to complete their digitisation on a priority basis and ensure timely completion of ongoing and new projects included in the Annual Development Programme.

The minister said IT initiatives would create new avenues of employment, entrepreneurship and investment for the province's youth, reaffirming the government's resolve to make KP a leading province in modern technology, digital governance and the digital economy.
