LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Aug, 2026) The Lahore Traffic Police organised a women’s scooter rally at Liberty Market on Saturday to promote safe mobility and encourage women to become more independent and confident riders.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi and SP Headquarters Fakhar Bashir Raja participated in the rally.
Speaking on the occasion, CTO Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi said practical measures were being taken under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to empower women and increase their participation in social and economic activities.
He said women’s role, alongside men, was vital to the social and economic development of society, adding that the Lahore Traffic Police was providing women with driving and motorcycle training to help them become more self-reliant.
According to Lahore Traffic Police statistics, 24,420 people have so far received training at its driving schools, including 15,256 women.
Of the women trained, 7,888 have received free car-driving training, while 7,178 have been trained to ride motorcycles or scooters.
This year alone, 1,472 women have received training at the Lahore Traffic Police driving schools.
The CTO said thousands of women had gained confidence and independence after receiving driving training through the department’s programmes. He added that efforts to equip more women with driving skills were continuing.
He said women at scooter schools were being provided a woman-to-woman training service, while 12 driving schools had been established across Lahore to provide training in car and scooter driving.
Sherazi said free motorcycle-riding training was also being offered to women under the Women on Wheels project, aimed at promoting confidence, independence and empowerment among women.
He said such initiatives would help create greater opportunities for women to travel independently and participate more actively in education, employment and other social and economic activities.
