KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Aug, 2026) Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the rehabilitation project of Memon Goth Road in District Malir, completed at a cost of more than Rs. 233.3 million.
Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, City Council members, elected representatives and others were also present on the occasion.
Mayor Karachi said that the total length of the Memon Goth Road rehabilitation project is 8,529 running meters, with rehabilitation and construction work carried out on both sides of the road.
Under the project, the width of the road was expanded by an average of up to 2 meters, while shoulders with an average width of 1.2 meters were also constructed on both sides.
He said that an asphaltic wearing course was laid over an area of 35,437 square meters, while 80-mm-thick pavers were installed over an area of 3,000 square meters. In addition, 60-mm-thick pavers were installed over an area of 17,000 square meters on the shoulders.
For smooth traffic flow and guidance, 150-mm-wide yellow and white lane markings were provided, while cat eyes were also installed where required.
Addressing the ceremony, Mayor Karachi said that all necessary traffic, sewerage and base-related works had been completed before construction of the roads. Work on the construction and rehabilitation of some roads along Makran Road has already commenced, while the tendering process for other roads is underway.
Development work across the entire Makran Road area will be completed by the end of the current year.
He said that the greenery, agricultural fields and rural culture of Malir reflect the positive identity of Karachi.
“Our objective is to connect different areas of the city with one another and further improve connectivity,” he added.
The Mayor said that due to improvement of the road infrastructure, travel time from the city to Malir has now been reduced to 15 to 20 minutes. Work is also underway on the dual carriageway project from the airport to Check Post, which will connect Kathore and the rear side of the airport with the motorway.
He said that the Airport Backside Road project would be completed and opened to the public by the middle of October, which would provide further convenience to citizens and improve connectivity.
Mayor Karachi said that a museum is being constructed at the 500-year-old Chaukhandi Cemetery, and that he is in contact with the Provincial Minister for Culture and Tourism in this regard.
He said that Chaukhandi Cemetery is under the control of the Provincial Minister for Culture and Tourism, while financial assistance has also been provided for the establishment of the museum.
He said that the museum would help educate children and young people about the ancient history, civilization and culture of Karachi and Malir.
He added that the Pakistan Peoples Party is also continuing work on historical and cultural projects across the city.
Mayor Karachi said that further measures would also be taken for the development of District Malir in the coming period.
He added that the path to the development of Karachi and Pakistan lies in mutual respect, unity, service and practical measures.
