KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Aug, 2026) Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani on Saturday visited the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), where he held a detailed meeting with representatives of the business and industrial community.
Representatives of traders’ and shopkeepers’ organisations from Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur also attended the meeting.
Speaking about the government’s 'Asaan Tax Scheme (Easy Tax Scheme)' and its mobile application, Bilal Azhar Kayani said the scheme had been introduced in response to demands from traders and shopkeepers and that its mobile application was now operational.
He said that the initiative would facilitate traders and shopkeepers while also helping broaden the country’s tax base.
The Minister that said focal persons from the Federal board of Revenue (FBR) and representatives of traders had been designated in different parts of the country to facilitate implementation of the scheme.
He added that a simple and easy-to-understand registration form had been developed in urdu, enabling shopkeepers to submit it online with ease.
Under the scheme, a shopkeeper would pay one percent tax on the value of annual sales declared by him, the Minister said.
Any tax deducted from bills of shopkeepers enrolled in the scheme would also be adjusted against their tax liability.
Registered shopkeepers would be provided with a green registration plate by the FBR. Once the green plate was displayed outside a shop, FBR officials would not be allowed to enter the premises for questioning, he said.
VBilal Azhar Kayani further said shopkeepers registered under the Asaan Tax Scheme would generally not be subjected to audits.
They would also not be required to install Point of Sale (POS) machines or act as withholding agents.
The Minister said that, on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, senior FBR officials would remain in Karachi for one week every month.
He said that the initiative was aimed at resolving the problems faced by the business community directly and on a regular basis.
The process had already begun in August and would continue in the future, he added.
Representatives of traders’ organisations and the Karachi Chamber appreciated Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani for maintaining continuous engagement with the business community and lauded Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s efforts to address their concerns.
