ABBOTABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 31st Aug, 2026) Pakistan witnessed its first-ever multi-stage 100-mile ultra trail running event, with 48 runners taking on three demanding days of mountain running in Galiyat from August 28 to 30.

Organized by Xtreme Adventures, the Savage 100 was held along the Bridle Track from Namli Gali to Barmi Gali. The three-day endurance challenge required participants to run approximately 40 kilometres each day, negotiate more than 2,000 metres of elevation gain and complete each stage within a 12-hour time limit.

The event tested the runners’ endurance, pacing, recovery and mental resilience as they returned each day to face another demanding mountain stage.

Yasban Karim of GB Scouts emerged as the men’s winner, completing the 40-kilometre trail on the third day in 4 hours and 13 minutes and setting a national record for the 40-kilometre trail course.

GB Scouts’ Savage Ali Abbas finished runner-up, while Muhammad Fida secured third position in the men’s category.

In the women’s category, Selena Khawaja emerged victorious. Khawaja became the first Pakistani female to win a 100-mile ultra trail running event, while also becoming the youngest female to achieve the feat.

Ayesha Mastoor Butt, a cancer survivor and endurance athlete, finished second, while Eman Khan of DRC Running Club secured third position.

The event also highlighted the participation of young athletes. At just 13 years of age, Saim Abbas became the youngest Pakistani ultra trail runner, adding another milestone to the event.

Another inspiring story came from Hassan Asif of DRC Running Club, who dedicated his run to his late mother. His participation reflected the deeply personal motivations that often drive endurance athletes beyond competition and the finish line.

The spirit of camaraderie was also evident, with Usama bin Rehman supporting struggling runners and helping them continue their journey under the motto, “No Savage Left Behind.” International record holder Masood Khan, known for his Peshawar-to-Skardu run, also supported fellow participants along the trail.

Renowned Pakistani mountaineer and Sitara-i-Imtiaz recipient Naila Kiani participated on the opening day, encouraging fellow runners and supporting efforts to promote ultra trail running and endurance sports in Pakistan. Pakistani triathlete Sana Arif also supported the initiative.

Chief Executive Officer Xtreme Adventures Rana Fahad Nisar said the event had brought Galiyat into the spotlight by showcasing its forests, wildflowers, mountain trails and panoramic landscapes, while demonstrating its potential as both a tourism destination and a venue for endurance sports.

He said the participation of people from different walks of life reflected the growing culture of ultra trail running in Pakistan. With the support of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and civil administration, he added, the event also demonstrated Pakistan’s potential to attract international ultra trail runners and establish Galiyat as a destination for endurance sports.
