ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Oct, 2026) PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan issued a notification retaining Sohail Afridi as Chief Minister. He said Afridi had the support and confidence of PTI founder Imran Khan and would therefore continue serving as the party’s chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The notification issued on X stated that, in view of the prevailing situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it was being issued to inform all concerned and ensure implementation, clarifying that Sohail Afridi would continue as chief minister. It added that Afridi had the support and confidence of PTI founding chairman Imran Khan and would remain the PTI chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the notification, no meeting would be held regarding the nomination or replacement of the chief minister.

All PTI members, office-bearers, parliamentarians and party officials were directed not to convene or attend any meeting concerning the nomination, replacement or consideration of an alternative candidate for the chief minister’s office, present or consider any proposal or agenda, or encourage or participate in any such discussion.

The notification further stated that the final authority to nominate the chief minister rested solely with Imran Khan. It clearly reiterated that, apart from founding chairman Imran Khan, no other person had the authority to nominate an alternative candidate or make any change to the decision in any way.

It said Imran Khan’s decisions would be final and all party members would be bound by them.

In a statement regarding the notification, Barrister Gohar Khan said all PTI members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly were a source of pride for the party. He said they had remained loyal to Khan, stood firm and responded to each of his decisions.

He said the notification was being issued in view of unnecessary speculation and various discussions on social media and some television channels regarding the chief minister, and to provide further clarification and reassure party workers and supporters. He added that decisions in the party were made only in accordance with Imran Khan’s instructions and, God willing, his instructions and decisions would remain final and paramount in the future as well.

It may be recalled that Barrister Gohar Ali Khan told the media outside Parliament House a day earlier that, as far as Sohail Afridi was concerned, he should be brought wherever he was. He said Afridi was still the chief minister, had been the chief minister the previous day and would remain the party’s chief minister in the future.

He said anyone with concerns should remove them from their minds, adding that if necessary, he would also issue a notification in his capacity as PTI chairman through the party platform.
