How to use the word counter
- Type or paste your text into the box. All counts update instantly.
- Check the word, character, sentence and paragraph totals in the summary cards.
- Use the limit bars to see whether your text fits a post, caption or meta tag. Bars turn amber near the limit and red when you go over.
- Review the top keywords to spot words you repeat too often or keywords that are missing.
How the counts work
Words are found with Unicode word-boundary rules, so punctuation is ignored and text in any language is handled. Characters are counted as user-perceived characters (grapheme clusters), which means an emoji or a letter with an accent counts as one, matching what you see on screen. Sentences are detected with Unicode sentence-boundary rules, and paragraphs are blocks of text separated by line breaks.
Keyword density is the number of times a word appears divided by the total word count. Common function words such as "the", "and" and "of" are excluded, so the list highlights the words that carry meaning. The stop-word list is English, so results for other languages may include some common words.
Common length limits
| Where | Limit | Note |
|---|---|---|
| X (Twitter) post | 280 characters | Standard accounts; links count as 23 |
| Meta title | ~60 characters | Guideline; Google truncates by pixel width |
| Meta description | ~160 characters | Guideline; Google may rewrite it |
| YouTube title | 100 characters | Hard limit |
| Instagram caption | 2,200 characters | Only the first lines show before "more" |
| LinkedIn post | 3,000 characters | Long posts are collapsed behind "see more" |
Platforms change their limits from time to time, so check the official help pages if a post sits right at the edge.
